How long will my DVD last?
We came across an article asking this question a few months back and it has been on my mind ever since. Of course everything is subject to damage. Your dvd can get a scratch or someone can get it jammed in the dvd player. But, the question we are asking is how long will the medium last before it degrades and is unusable. Just like time can fade a photo. It can probably do the same to a dvd. Remember, dvd's are not all that old. They were invented in 1996. So, even if you had one from that year we would only know that they last that long. But what about 30 years from now? Along with not knowing if the standard medium of today will last into tomorrow; will you even have a dvd player in 30 years to show your grandkids your wedding video?
Well, we decided to put your mind at ease when asking these questions because we are now copying all edited video (the highlight as well as wedding/reception coverage) onto custom USB drives. This will make it easier to view your wedding day on your computer or smart tv. These will not degrade with time and will be easy to copy to other formats when USB's become a thing of the past.
